Unless you are a talented performer, the spotlight can be a scary thing. This was certainly not the case with the Parent Network of WNY's first Open House, which shined a bright light on the organization, its state-of-the-art facility and its very talented team of professionals.

Held Sept. 26, 2002, the event was a huge success, drawing close to 200 parents, civic leaders, school and agency personnel, and friends together for an informative and enjoyable afternoon.

Despite all of the fun, though, the primary mission of the Open House was to offer parents and professionals alike the chance to see, listen to, and experience first-hand all that the Parent Network has to offer. Among the festivities:

• The dedication of the Dena B. Goldstein Family Resource Initiative, a collection of helpful books and other resource materials for parents of children with special needs. A unique plaque was placed outside, memorializing the courageous daughter of Bruce and Betsy Goldstein, both tireless advocates for children with disabilities.
  
• Videotaped testimonials from Robert Bennett, the Chancellor of NYSED Regents; Larry Gloecker, Deputy Commissioner of NYSED VESID; and Vito Borrello of Every Person Influences Children (EPIC).
  
• The debut of our newsletter, Special Insights.
  
• A fun (and successful) basket raffle, co-chaired by Board members Joan Roetter and Ann Maghran.

A thank you goes out to all of our attendees for making the Open House a huge success. Also, a special thank you is extended to all of our event planners and volunteers.
