PN to Provide Family & Education Training Services
(February/March 2003)

In response to several requests, the Parent Network of WNY has applied for, and received, approval to offer Family & Educational Training (FET) through the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD).

What does this mean? If you are a parent of a child with a developmental disability (under the age of 18) who is participating in the Home and Community Based Waiver, FET is one of the options available to you, and now, the Parent Network can be your choice of a service provider.

FET is distinct from service coordination in its purpose of enhancing the ability to make decisions about your child/family member. The trainings provide an understanding of the nature and impact of developmental disabilities, as well as information on what services are available and how they can be accessed.

The Parent Network of WNY provides a variety of training options geared for parents of children with special needs ranging from how to navigate the special education process to how to better organize all of the paperwork that is accrued. Please see the list of current trainings available by clicking the appropriate button to the left of the screen.

If you would like more information on how the Parent Network can fulfill your FET requirements, call us at 332-4170.
