Meet the Trainer: Rosann Brecher
(June/July 2003)

Meet Rosann Brecher, one of the dedicated Parent Trainers on our staff.

Rosann was born in Italy and came over to the United States as a toddler through Catholic Charities' Adoption Services. She grew up in downtown Buffalo and married her husband Mark 15 years ago. They have one child, their daughter Hannah. Rosann does not have any siblings but she comes from a large close-knit extended family.

Rosann's educational background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in painting from the University at Buffalo and post-graduate work in education at Buffalo State College.

Not to be standing still for too long, Rosann volunteers at a number of different venues including her church, (where she teaches sixth grade religion), and the Ken-Ton Special Education PTSA (where she serves as vice president). In addition, Rosann belongs to the Maryvale Home Bureau, a local women's service organization.

Thanks to a little advice, Rosann found out about the Parent Network of WNY through a friend who suggested she apply for a position as a Parent Trainer. Rosann's friend thought that she would like the job. And she was right! Rosann is quick to identify the strong connections she makes with parents as a point of pride and enthusiasm for her work. Rosann conducts workshops and trainings on a wide variety of subjects such as: Nonverbal Learning Disability, Social Stories, and Developing an IEP. She is also always on hand to pitch in with any of the "behind the scenes" work that often needs to be done.

Rosann feels that she has learned a lot over the years through the path down which her daughter has led their family. There have been tough times, she says, but many happy and exciting times, too! She points to her firm belief in the power and strength of family, and maintains that this belief is one she hopes to pass on to all of the parents whose lives she touches.
