  • Response to Intervention - The National Center for Learning Disabilities Parent's Guide to Response to Intervention (RtI). The Parent's Guide is a must-have handbook for parents whose children are struggling in school, and an essential resource for understanding the Response to Intervention (RtI) process. It includes parent perspectives, a glossary of important terms, sample intervention plans, checklists and worksheets, and more.  
  • Response to Intervention - provides parents, families and others with information regarding Response to Intervention (RtI). RtI is a process used in schools to provide well-designed instruction, closely monitor all students' progress and provide additional instructional supports to students who are struggling.
  • NYSED - NCLB Accountability - Federal "No Child Left Behind" (NCLB) legislation requires NY State to implement a system of accountability for schools and districts.

National

  • IES What Works Clearinghouse - Practice guides developed by the U.S. Dept. of Education Institute of Education Sciences (IES).
  • National Parent Information Network -  Educational software and services for middle school, high school, and college students.
  • Parent's Guide to Student Success - National PTA® created the guides for grades K-8 and two for grades 9-12 (one for English language arts/literacy and one for mathematics). The standards provide clear, consistent expectations for what students should be learning at each grade in order to be prepared for college and career.
  • Public Education Network - A national association of local education funds and individuals working to advance public school reform in low-income communities across our country.

  • Council for Exceptional Children - Dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted.
  • National Longitudinal Transition Study 2 (NLTS2) - Focuses on a wide range of important topics, such as high school coursework, extracurricular activities, academic performance, postsecondary education and training, employment, independent living, and community participation.
  • Organized4Kids - My IEP ToolKit: A smart, easy-to-use binder system that help parents organize the piles of paperwork that come with having a child with special needs—regardless of the child’s disability, age, or U.S. state.
  • Parent Center Network - National Center that provides Parent Centers with innovative technical assistance, up-to-date information, and high quality resources and materials.

  • Institute on Community Inclusion ICI offers training, clinical, and employment services, conducts research, and provides assistance to organizations to promote inclusion of people with disabilities in school, work, and community activities.
  • Mobility International Pioneering short-term international disability leadership programs in the U.S. and abroad with 2,000 youth, young adults and professionals from over 100 countries. Challenge Yourself and Change the World!
  • National Clearinghouse of Rehabilitation Training Materials The mission of the NCRTM is to advocate for the advancement of best practice in rehabilitation counseling through the development, collection, dissemination, and utilization of professional information, knowledge and skill.
  • National Council on Independent Living As a membership organization, NCIL advances independent living and the rights of people with disabilities through consumer-driven advocacy.
  • Rural Institute on Disabilities — “national network of programs … committed to increasing and supporting the independence, productivity, and inclusion of persons with disabilities into the community.”
  • Transition Coalition Providing online information, support, and professional development on topics related to the transition from school to adult life for youth with disabilities.

Activities/Sports

  • Club Escape Recreation and Leisure Services is an innovative consumer driven program that serves adults diagnosed with developmental disabilities.  This program serves to provide its participants with the opportunity to attend recreational activities in the community as well as provide the chance to socialize with peers, meet new friends, gain an opportunity to relax, hang out and have fun.
  • Danceability, Inc is a program for children and adults with special needs utilizing dance and movement to enable and empower students while promoting physical, social, and emotional wellness in a family-focused, peaceful environment.
  • High Hurdles Therapeutic Riding Program offers cognitively, emotionally and physically challenged individuals a unique opportunity for growth and development. Instructor, student, horse and volunteers work together to meet challenging yet attainable horsemanship goals. Learning to care for and about horses while mastering riding skills is what High Hurdles is all about.
  • Lothlorien Therapeutic Riding Center was established in 1983 to provide horsemanship and horse back riding opportunities for individuals of all ages with cognitive, physical, emotional and learning disabilities.
  • Moving Miracles is a dance and movement program for children, adolescents and adults with special needs, serving the Buffalo and Western New York community.
  • SABAH-Skating Athletes Bold At Heart SABAH’s mission is to challenge individuals with special needs and volunteer partners to experience the success, pride, freedom and joy of therapeutic ice-skating while achieving personal growth. 
  • Special Olympics NY provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of skills and friendship with their families, Special Olympics athletes and the commun
  • Starlight Studio and Art Gallery provides an open-art studio environment with individualized guidance, goal setting, technical assistance, demonstrations, and critiques for the cultivation of artistic expression with people who have disabilities.
  • The Independence Foundation is dedicated to providing support and assistance to children and individuals with physical disabilities so that they may live independent, self-directed lives.
  • Time to Dance – Graceful and Gifted is a class for developmentally disabled dancers. Time to Dance offers classes for ambulatory and non-ambulatory individuals from ages 3-adult.
 

Vacations

  • Dream Tours is a travel resource whose mission is to extend the unforgettable "Dream Tours Vacation" experience to as many individuals with disabilities and their families as possible.
  • Excalibur Leisure Skills Center, Inc. is a private, non-profit all volunteer, charitable organization dedicated to providing COST FREE adaptive boating and fishing opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged persons.
  • Exceptional Vacations is dedicated to providing high quality vacation opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and special needs.  We ensure a safe environment with an emphasis on inclusion.  Our trips promote integration, socialization, friendship and fun.
  • People and Places provides vacation opportunities for persons with developmental disabilities!
  • The Guided Tour Inc. Since 1972, thousands of men and women with developmental and physical challenges from all over the world have achieved greater independence through the travel experiences provided by The Guided Tour, Inc.
               
Camp
  • Camp Duffield Challenge Camp is for mentally handicapped adults. Experienced staff provide a unique vacation including the usual camp activities such as campfire sing-a-longs, swimming, fishing, bingo, theater in the woods, crafts, camp Olympics, talent show and many more. Come join old friends and meet new ones!
  • Camp Huntington is a co-ed, residential program for children and young adults with special learning and developmental needs. Their goal is to provide a safe and beneficial therapeutic and adaptive summer recreation and education program for people with a wide range of special needs (in an outdoor setting).
  • Cradle Beach Camp serves the needs of disabled and disadvantaged children from Western New York. We provide a healthy environment and organized activities to promote socialization, self-worth, and decision making, in an atmosphere of love and acceptance.
  • Pioneer Camp and Retreat Center At Pioneer we strive to "show the face of Jesus" and nowhere is there a better example of that than in our Agape Camp Program. The program incorporates all the great activities & fun of summer camping & makes them accessible to all.
